Colleges Pitch In to Greet Little Leaguers

'Hello' from College Town The Wildcat and his faithful friends The Midwest entry (Canyon Lake Little League from Rapid City, S.D.) rides past Penn College A presidential greeting Penn College and Lycoming College students, staff and administration formed a civic all-star team for Thursday's 10-division Grand Slam Parade through Williamsport. At far left, Lycoming College students carry the College Town banner as the parade - the official start of the Little League Baseball World Series across the river in South Williamsport - passes the Center for Business & Workforce Development. The Penn College contingent, rallied by its Wildcat mascot, handed out candy and "degrees that work" bracelets as the parade moved east on West Fourth Street toward Market Square. Joining them along the well-lined route, standing in a Jeep, were Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour and James Douthat, her Lycoming counterpart. Among other dignitaries were the 16 teams that will play in the World Series, Gov. Edward G. Rendell and Hall of Fame pitcher Rich "Goose" Gossage.
