Power Generation Student Awarded Industry Scholarship

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

A Pennsylvania College of Technology student was chosen by the Electrical Generating Systems Association as one of a dozen David I. Coren Memorial Scholarship recipients for the 2008-09 academic year.

Jacob D. Schaeffer, an electric power generation technology student from Westminster, Md., was awarded $2,500 from EGSA, an international trade association made up of more than 600 companies throughout the United States and a dozen other countries. Headquartered in Boca Raton, Fla., the association is the world's largest organization dedicated to on-site power generation.

Penn College's associate-degree major is offered cooperatively through the School of Natural Resources Management at the Schneebeli Earth Science Center near Allenwood and the School of Construction and Design Technologies on the college's main campus in Williamsport.

"Jason is very deserving of this national recognition, and we are pleased that he was chosen as a recipient," said Mary A. Sullivan, dean of natural resources management. "This scholarship continues to offer our power generation students another avenue of financial assistance to offset college expenses. Congratulations, Jason!"

The David I. Coren Scholarship Program was established to provide financial assistance to students who plan to seek employment in the power generation industry after they have successfully completed their studies. The program memorializes a former executive at Zenith Controls and a leader within EGSA who died in 2000.
