On Sunday, June 1, Birch B. Phillips Jr. and Annmarie Phillips were presented with the Directors Chair Award by the Community Arts Center Board of Directors. The Directors Chair Award is presented annually to recognize and honor individuals who have had a significant impact on the success of the Community Arts Center.
Steve Johnson, president and CEO of Susquehanna Health, noted the many contributions that Birch Phillips continues to make to the health system, Pennsylvania College of Technology, the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations. He noted the multigenerational history of Phillips Supply House, of which Birch Phillips is past president and where he now serves as treasurer.
Davie Jane Gilmour, Penn College president, cited the many awards that Annmarie Phillips has received for community service and the active role she plays in a number of nonprofit, artistic and philanthropic organizations throughout the region.
The award was presented to the Phillips by William J. Martin, chair of the Arts Center Board of Directors. In praising their relationship with the Arts Center, Martin called the Phillips "among our most loyal patrons and most generous benefactors."
In accepting the award, both cited their love for the community and their desire "to give something back in return for the life they have enjoyed here." The award ceremonies followed a reception and dinner in the Capitol Lounge of the Arts Center attended by approximately 100 well-wishers.
