Volvo Construction Equipment North America has made another generous donation to support students at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The Asheville, N.C.-based company recently donated a 2006 Volvo MC80B skid steer loader to be used by students in Penn College's School of Natural Resources Management.
The Volvo skid steer loader will be used at Penn College's heavy construction equipment operations site and in powertrain, hydraulics and other lab-based classes. The courses are designed to give practical experience to students in both the heavy construction equipment technology: operator emphasis and heavy construction equipment technology: technician emphasis associate-degree majors. It may also be used by students in the college's forestry and horticulture department.
The skid steer loader was previously used at Volvo Construction Equipment North America's training site in Asheville.
"The training program at Penn College is certified by the AED (Associated Equipment Dealers) Foundation and is one of the premier training schools in the Northeast," said David R. Loveland, training manager for Volvo Construction Equipment North America. "Their commitment to training excellence combines with our goals to highlight the Volvo Construction Equipment products and technology."
"Volvo continues to be a strong partner in educating the technicians of tomorrow," added Mary A. Sullivan, dean of natural resources management at Penn College. "Their generous donations, such as the skid steer, allow us to continue to offer a quality, hands-on education at a reasonable price."
The skid steer loader is valued at $28,500. Since 2004, Volvo Construction Equipment North America has donated more than $280,000 worth of construction equipment, related components and instructional materials to support students at Penn College. Most of the donations have been facilitated by Highway Equipment and Supply Co., Harrisburg; Penn Jersey Machinery Co., Lionville; and Rudd Equipment Co., Louisville, Ky., which are the regional dealers for Volvo Construction Equipment North America Inc.
