Thursday, April 10, 2008
A faculty member in Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Business and Computer Technologies has been selected as a regional recipient of the 2008 Teaching Excellence Award from the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs.
The honor puts Irwin H. Siegel professor of business administration/business law and recipient of Penn College's 2005 Master Teacher Award in the running for an international award at the association's June 20-23 conference in New Orleans. Criteria for the award are classroom teaching and learning, professional development, institutional versatility, curriculum development and community commitment.
One nominee is chosen in each of the association's eight regions: Northeastern, Eastern, Southeastern, Great Lakes, Midwestern, Southwestern, Western and International. As an international finalist from the Eastern Council, Siegel will receive a monetary award, medallion and waiver of the registration fee to attend the summer conference.
Siegel joined the Penn College faculty in 1998 after nearly 20 years in business, primarily as an in-house corporate attorney and member of management. Retiring at the end of the Spring 2008 semester, he currently teaches mainly upper-level management courses and heads the student-internship program for the School of Business and Computer Technologies.
In addition to the Master Teacher Award, the college's highest faculty honor, Siegel received an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2001.
Siegel earned a doctorate in adult education from The Pennsylvania State University, a master of laws degree from Widener University School of Law, a law degree from Dickinson School of Law and a bachelor's degree in English from Lebanon Valley College.
Founded in 1988, ACBSP is among the national accrediting bodies for higher-education institutions with business programs. Penn College's business administration and accounting majors have been accredited by the association since 2006.
