Penn College Aviation Students, Faculty Obtain Industry Certification
Friday, February 29, 2008
Twenty-three Pennsylvania College of Technology aviation students and three faculty members were certified in January by the PAMA/SAE Institute, which quantifies technicians' knowledge throughout the aviation maintenance industry.
The Professional Aviation Maintenance Association, through its affiliation with the SAE Institute, created the Aviation Maintenance Specialist and Aviation Maintenance Engineer certifications, which are based on an industry-driven consensus. Those certifications validate core knowledge of aviation mechanics where no Federal Aviation Administration certification standard exists and will be the baseline certification required for future specialized certifications currently under development.
The students obtaining certification are Zachary S. Adams, Millerton; Timothy J. Alexander, South Williamsport; Samuel C. Baldridge, Philadelphia; Neil F. Baughman, Hershey; Michael G. Baumann Jr., Stowe, Vt.; Brian A. Bost, Cogan Station; Bradley T. Cole, Columbia Cross Roads; Ethan D. Davenport, South Williamsport; Linh H. Do, Williamsport; Justin A. Eshleman, Lancaster; Michael B. Ferrucci, South Williamsport; Christopher M. Gayman, Lancaster; Gregory B. Gilliland, Franklin; Marc D. Martin, Lebanon; Joshua L. Martin, Camp Hill; Jordan D. Mertz, Milroy; Wesley C. Miller, Reading; Mwaura K. Ngoima, Williamsport; Joshua W. Poole, Thurmont, Md.; Frank E. Swinehart, McElhattan; Benjamin W. Thompson, Conestoga; Roberto J. Valentin, Lebanon; and Justine R. Wareham, Hollidaysburg.
Certified faculty members are Walter V. Gower, assistant professor of aviation; William F. Stepp III, associate professor of aviation; and William P. "Scott" Welch, instructor of aviation.
