College Welcomes New Faculty/Staff to Academic Schools

Pennsylvania College of Technology recently welcomed new faculty and staff for 2007-08 to its academic schools and offices.

The faculty and staff members − and brief biographies for each − follow.



School of Business and Computer Technologies
Pamela Ellis
Instructor, computer information technology
Ellis holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Northeastern University and a master's in education from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. Her professional career began as manager of shareholder services with Boston Financial Data Services. Following her undergraduate degree, Ellis made significant contributions as an English as a second language instructor in Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Philadelphia and, most recently, with FLS International in Lock Haven. She also served as an adjunct faculty member and professional tutor at Montgomery County Community College.

John W. McKinley
Assistant professor of business administration/accounting
McKinley earned a bachelor's degree in business and economics at the State University of New York at Oneonta. He received a law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law, and he holds master's degrees in taxation from Villanova University and in trial advocacy from Temple University. He comes to Penn College from SUNY Delhi, where he served as an assistant professor in accounting and business law. His previous teaching experiences include Marist College, Utica School of Commerce and Wilmington College. McKinley brings industry experience from his roles as a senior tax manager with firms in Ohio, New York and Delaware.

Jose Nededog
Assistant professor of business administration/marketing
Nededog holds a doctorate in business administration from Alliant International University and a master of business administration degree from Western Washington University. He holds two undergraduate degrees: one in business administration from Chapman University and one in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California. His most recent teaching experience was as a faculty member at the University of Guam. His professional work experience includes insurance sales, financial consulting, civil engineering and service as a U.S. Naval officer.

School of Construction and Design Technologies
Daniel L. Brooks
Instructor of architectural technology
Brooks holds associate degrees in architectural technology and general studies and a bachelor's degree in residential construction technology and management from Penn College. He has served as an adjunct faculty member since 1980 while working professionally in architectural drafting and technology with Haven Homes, Beech Creek, and Design/Build Consulting Services, Lock Haven.

Counseling, Career and Disability Services Office
Mary Lee Kelly
Counselor and instructor
Kelly holds a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation education from The Pennsylvania State University and a master's degree from the National Catholic School of Social Service, Catholic University of America. She has completed postgraduate study in family therapy practice and Gestalt group facilitation. Kelly is a psychotherapist in private practice, having served in Williamsport, Lewisburg and Montoursville. Since 1977, she has worked across the nation and internationally in a variety of roles including family counseling, family advocacy therapy, clinical social work and children's crisis therapy.

School of Health Sciences
Margaret M. Faust
Instructor of nursing
Faust earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Bloomsburg University and a master's degree in nursing education from Mansfield University. She brings experience as a clinical instructor at Penn College and Thomas Jefferson University. Since 1989, she has been affiliated with Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, as a staff registered nurse in medical/surgical.

Valerie A. Myers
Instructor of nursing
Myers holds a bachelor's degree in nursing from Lycoming College and is currently enrolled in a master's program with Walden University. She brings significant experience as a nurse educator and nurse supervisor, most recently serving with Bayada Nurses, a pediatric nursing educator-home health agency in Dushore, and Interim Health Care, Muncy. Myers is a licensed registered nurse and holds certifications in CPR, IV therapy and basic arrhythmia. She has served as a U.S. Army Reserve administration specialist.

Susan L. Shaffer
Instructor of surgical technology
Shaffer is a licensed registered nurse who holds a bachelor's degree in health arts from the University of St. Francis in Illinois and a certificate in surgical technology from Penn College. She comes to the college most recently from Susquehanna Health and brings more than 30 years of experience in operating-room, endoscopy and surgicenter settings. As an adjunct faculty member at Penn College, Shaffer mentored and instructed surgical technology students and the clinical experience.

School of Industrial and Engineering Technologies
Brad H. Lyon
Instructor of surveying/civil engineering technology
Lyon is a professional licensed surveyor in Virginia and Pennsylvania. He holds an associate degree in surveying technology from Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Lyon brings professional experience as a survey technician and party chief, as well as a senior land surveyor in Virginia and Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Land Surveyors.

School of Integrated Studies
Mary Ann Banks
Instructor of chemistry
Banks holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Edinboro State College. She has served as an adjunct faculty member in chemistry at Penn College since 2004. She continues to serve as an evaluator for Homeschooled Students, where she led Lycoming County homeschoolers for 10 years. Prior to joining Penn College on a full-time basis, Banks was a substitute teacher for the BLaST Intermediate Unit 17, Williamsport.

Barbara A. Fisher
Lecturer, developmental math
Fisher holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Penn State and is enrolled in the master of education program (with emphasis in mathematics) at the university. She brings previous experience as an adjunct instructor at Penn College, along with high school teaching experience in Hughesville and Elverson.

Stephanie Jones
Instructor of mathematics
Jones holds a bachelor's degree in applied statistics, with a minor in women's studies, from Rochester Institute of Technology. Her master's in applied statistics, with a specialization in college and university teaching, comes from Ohio State University. Jones has extensive graduate teaching experience and received several teaching accommodations during graduate study. She brings statistical-research experience with the U.S. Census Bureau and Ohio State University, along with skills focused upon motivation in learning and teaching.

Chris E. Kule
Assistant professor of biology (anatomy and physiology)
Kule joins Penn College from Cabrini College, where he served as an assistant professor of biology. Kule holds a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular physiology from Penn State's College of Medicine and a bachelor's degree in biology from Penn State. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Weis Center of Research at the Geisinger Clinic. He has served as a visiting assistant professor at Dickinson College and Bloomsburg University. Kule is the author of numerous publications and presentations related to cardiac function.

Sandra L. Linn
Lecturer, speech communication-composition
Linn holds both a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in communication studies from Bloomsburg University. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at Penn College and Luzerne County Community College. She has extensive teaching experience in English and communications in Coal Township and Mifflinburg, as well as in case management, evaluation and curriculum coordination in Lewisburg and Bloomsburg. Linn designed the Connecting with Kids training program and created a writing/speech course for Keystone National High School. She has participated in numerous professional-development and training opportunities, both as a learner and facilitator.

Chad T. Lower
Instructor of mathematics
Lower holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics, with a minor in chemistry, from Messiah College; a master's degree in mathematics, with a concentration in algebra icgroup theory, from Shippensburg University; and has made progress toward a Ph.D. in mathematics from West Virginia University. He served in the Teach for America Charter Corps in Detroit atTrombly Alternative High School. He holds secondary teaching certifications in mathematics and chemistry in both Michigan and Pennsylvania.

James R. Stafford
Assistant professor of English-composition
Stafford returns to Penn College, having served as a full-time faculty member in the department of English from Fall 1997 to Spring 2004. He holds a Ph.D. in English-rhetoric and composition from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He earned a master's in English from Radford University and a master's in education from Virginia Tech. Most recently, Stafford served as a full-time writing lecturer at Elmira College, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in communications and literature. He has supervised student teachers in English and has worked with gifted high school students. He is the author of three books and numerous national presentations.

Mark J. Stewart
Assistant professor of physics
Stewart holds a bachelor's degree in physics and applied mathematics from Drew University in New Jersey. His Ph.D. in electrical engineering was completed at Lehigh University. Prior to joining Penn College, Stewart served on the faculty at Northwest College in Wyoming and as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Illinois-Chicago. His additional professional work experience includes industry consulting and numerous professional publications related to polysilicon technology.

School of Natural Resources Management
Matthew E. Bell
Instructor of diesel equipment technology-hydraulics
Bell holds an associate degree in heavy construction equipment technology from Penn College. He brings 10 years of professional experience as an excavation foreman/operator and heavy- equipment shop and field technician.

Michael D. Fetterolf
Lecturer, diesel equipment technology-electrical
Fetterolf holds a certificate in diesel mechanics from Williamsport Area Community College and is working toward his associate degree in diesel technology at Penn College. He holds certifications and licenses in state inspection and refrigeration. He has 20 years' experience working on diesel engines from vocational equipment to heavy trucks. Since 1989, Fetterolf has worked with Weis Markets Inc. He has served in an adjunct capacity in diesel equipment technology with Penn College.

School of Transportation Technology
Loren R. Bruckhart
Lecturer, collision repair
Bruckhart holds an associate degree in collision repair from Penn College along with I-CAR (Inter-Industry Conference On Auto Collision Repair) certificates in nonstructural, corrosion protection, steering and suspension, aluminum repair, collision repair and plastic repair. He completed additional industry training through Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), PPG Automotive Refinish and SEM Products Inc. Before joining Penn College, Bruckhart served as a substitute teacher for Sun Area Career and Technology Center, New Berlin. Since 1997, he has worked professionally as a collision repair technician in Watsontown, Sunbury and Lewisburg.

Joseph A. Tavani
Industry internship specialist
Tavani holds an associate degree in General Motors automotive service education from Harrisburg Area Community College. His professional career includes service as a technician, transmission rebuilder and shop foreman, with an additional nine years as a service manager. Since 2003, he has served as an adjunct faculty member at HACC. He holds Master Technician and L1 certifications through ASE.
