Clothesline Project Honors Survivors, Victims of Intimate Violence
Monday, September 24, 2007
The Penn College community recognizes the Clothesline Project this week with T-shirt displays in the Campus Center lobby and Madigan Library. The Clothesline Project was created in Massachusetts in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women. According to its Web site , "It is a vehicle for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. They then hang the shirt on a clothesline to be viewed by others as a testimony to the problem of violence against women." Women affected by violence and their families and friends are encouraged to participate. Several shirts on display in the CC and library were supplied by Wise Options, a local organization for women. Stop by the displays for a description of the Project and the meaning of the different-colored T-shirts. Supplies will be available for anyone who would like to make a T-shirt to add to the clothesline. This event is sponsored by Student Health Services and the Madigan Library.
