Wildcat Golfers Victorious Yet Again

Friday, September 21, 2007

Pennsylvania College of Technology golfers led a five-team field to claim victory in Thursday's Penn State Mont Alto Tournament at the Penn National course in Fayetteville.

Leading the way individually for the Wildcats was junior Doug Wagner, of Huntington Mills, who shot a 78 and the only round in the 70s among the competing colleges.

"This is Doug's first year on the Penn College golf team, and to shoot a round like this for the first time on the course is a real accomplishment," according to golf coach Chet Schuman. The coach noted that the course played difficult and the results are noted in the scores the players posted for the day. It was a beautiful day, filled with a lot of sunshine and very fast greens, very similar to conditions at the tough Nemacolin course on which Penn College openedits season.

Senior Shaun McQuay, of Watsontown, along with freshman Eric Schall, of Jersey Shore, shot 80s. Also for Penn College, sophomore Matt Winder, of Montgomery, fired an 84; freshman Dean Bell, of Schwenksville, an 85; junior Ryan Nornhold, of Enola, an 88. The team placed five of its six golfers in the top five for the day. The team shot a total of 322, followed by Penn State New Kensington at 347.

The Wildcats travel to New Kensington on Tuesday for their final regular-season match prior to the Oct. 20-21 championships at Penn State University.
