Construction Management Student Awarded $5,000 Scholarship

Ryan P. BeckerA construction management student at Pennsylvania College of Technology has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Trimmer Education Foundation, the educational affiliate of the Associated Builders and Contractors.

Ryan P. Becker, of Johnstown, was one of 11 honorees in construction-related programs at colleges and universities across the nation as part of the foundation's annual scholarship competition. Others attend Brigham Young University, Eastern Kentucky University, Georgia Southern University, Millersville University, The Pennsylvania State University, the University of Cincinnati and Washington State University.

Becker is president of Penn College's Construction Management Association.

"Ryan is a dedicated student and a hard worker," said Wayne R. Sheppard, assistant professor of building construction management and CMA's faculty adviser. "As president of the CMA and an active participant in college, as well as several internships with a large construction management firm in Maryland, he has excelled and represented our program and school very well. It is great to see our students recognized and rewarded for their efforts."

This year's $55,000 in scholarships honor undergraduate students in construction programs (excluding architecture and engineering) that exhibit the highest standards of excellence. To be eligible, students must be current members of an ABC student chapter or employed by an ABC member firm, and must demonstrate academic achievement and community involvement.

The Trimmer Education Foundation has awarded more than $300,000 in construction-education scholarships during the past 36 years.
