New English-Tutoring Policy Established

Monday, August 27, 2007

In an effort to provide more timely service and better meet students' needs, the Tutoring Center has established a new English tutoring policy for the new academic year. Beginning immediately, English tutors will limit their sessions to one hour per day. (Students needing additional work on a paper are welcome to come back on a different day.)

Because longer papers require more time, tutors encourage students to bring their papers (or parts of their papers) in as early as possible and/or submit drafts to Smarthinking.com (online tutoring). Also, the more information students have about their writing assignments, the better able the tutors will be to help them. Tutors and tutees will be able to use the hour more efficiently if they do not have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out the assignment.

While the Tutoring Center encourages multiple tutoring sessions for most papers, students should definitely plan on several visits for longer papers, as it is not possible to address every issue in a long paper in one tutoring session.

The Tutoring Center staff members appreciatestudents' cooperation and look forward to helpingthem improve their writing!
