Van Safety Training Classes Scheduled

Friday, August 24, 2007

Van safety training available through Workforce Development %26 Continuing Education.Fifteen-passenger van safety training classes are scheduled from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Oct. 11 and Nov. 8 in the atrium of the General Services Building on Reach Road.

If you will need to operate one of the 15-passenger vans, you must take this certification class if you have not been previously certified. For additional information on what is covered, or to register online, you can access this course on the Professional Development Web site or contact Workforce Development & Continuing Education offices at ext. 4775.

If you have been certified but it has been more than two years since your certification, you must be recertified. Recertification is available online and can be done at your convenience. Please check the expiration date on your card (located on the lower left corner), and, if it is time for you to recertify, you can do so by contacting Steve McDonald of Instructional Technology & Distance Learning to set up the test account for you.

Other important reminders about van certification:

  • You must be certified even if you are using a non-college van if you are transporting Penn College students
  • If a Penn College student who has been certified to operate one of the vans is driving, he or she must be accompanied by a staff member who also is certified
  • Individuals with CDL licenses or other appropriate training through an accepted organization (i.e. ambulance drivers) are not required to take the original course, but must be recertified
