Students Test Knowledge Against Industry Representatives

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Members of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society student chapter traveled recently to a quiz-bowl competition in Baltimore, where they showed their knowledge against industry representatives.

The Student Bowl was held during the annual ISA District 2 Leadership Conference, April 13-14. While most often pitted against students from other colleges, the seven-member Penn College team this year tested its knowledge against seasoned professionals.

The two teams competed head-to-head, responding to questions on basic and advanced instrumentation, systems and automation theory and practice. While the students won only one round of the three-part competition against the vets, they answered more questions correctly overall.

Competing in rotation for Penn College's student ISA chapter were: Michael R. Bloom, Orangeville; Bradley S. Galloway, York; Jamison S. Hurt, Chester Springs; Eric A. Maschuck, Paxinos; Matthew J. McKinney, Youngsville; Kyle J. Wilson, Russell; and William J. Stachnik, Moscow.

All seven students are pursuing bachelor's degrees Bloom, Galloway and Maschuck in electronics engineering technology; Hurt, Wilson and Stachnik in building automation technology; and McKinney in technology management.

They were accompanied by faculty advisers Randall L. Moser, instructor of electronics, and Perry R. Gotschal, assistant professor of electronics.
