In that game, the Wildcats erupted for eight runs in the first inning and, according to coach Chris Howard, "just coasted from there." Mark Shaffer (Hanover) went five innings and got the mound win. Offensively, Phil Woodring (Waynesboro) went 2-for-4 at the plate with a two-run homer and five runs batted in, Cody Lytle (Watsontown) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Levi Bailey (Harrisburg) and James Craft (York) 2-for-3 with two RBI each. Penn College will host either Penn State Hazleton or Penn State Scranton at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Bowman Field in a game where the winner will advance to the conference Final Four on Sunday at University Park. Howard said his team is ready. "I like the way we're playing. We've got to go out and play to our ability. We need to go out and do what we do best, and we'll take care of our business," Howard said. Will Moser (Scranton) will be the starting pitcher Tuesday for the Wildcats. "This is what we've been working up to going for another championship. I'm happy with the way we're playing right now," Howard added. Women's SoftballSamantha Mills (Harrisburg) and Michelle McNett (Canton) had the hot bats in a doubleheader split against Northampton County Community College, and the second-game win not only snapped a three-game Wildcats loss string to Northampton this season, but also snapped Northampton's 90-plus game winning streak that extended over several seasons. Mills went 6-for-9 in the two games, with a pair of home runs in the loss, and McNett went 5-for-8. McNett was the winning pitcher in the second game. On Saturday at Penn State Abington, the Lady Wildcats got strong pitching from Kristin Bernard (Hastings) and Renee Craig (Millville) who each tossed one-hitters and struck out 12 batters. Penn College batters rapped out 28 hits in the twin bill.
