Student Winners Chosen in 'Mockingbird' Essay Contest

Carla J. Sechrist, grand-prize winner in the 'Big Read'essay contest at the Madigan Library Other winners are Angela M. Valentine and Mark A. Atwater Three Penn College students will share $175 in prize money for their winning entries in the Madigan Library's "To Kill a Mockingbird" essay contest. The contest, held in conjunction with the ongoing "Big Read" program, asked each student to craft a 500-word essay on a quote from Harper Lee's classic novel: "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." The winners were Carla J. Sechrist, first prize, $100; Angela M. Valentine, second, $50; and Mark A. Atwater, third, $25. ( Photos by Anthony A.
