'Cat TalesMen's Volleyball At the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Volleyball Conference championships, the Wildcats went 3-0 in pool play, beating College of New Jersey, Stevens Tech and Kutztown, before falling in the quarterfinals to Eastern.
"They did play a lot better than they did Thursday night (loss at Messiah)," coach Wes Strayer said, "But things just didn't work out."
Against Eastern, Penn College was down 9-1 in the first game and rallied to take that one, before losing the next two.
"It was a good year, but not a good year. I really thought we had the team that was going to challenge again for the MAC finals, and we didn't," Strayer said.
Messiah, which beat the Wildcats for the conference crown a year ago, repeated as champ.
BaseballThe Wildcats split their season opener at Penn State Scranton. In the second-game win, Devon Liquori (Hawley) went 3-for-4 and Cody Lytle (Watsontown) 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Women's SoftballSamantha Mills (Harrisburg) had five hits in a season-opening doubleheader loss at Northampton County Community College.
The Lady Wildcats rebounded in a big way at Penn State Scranton, scoring 50 runs in just six total innings of work. In the first game, Samantha Mills (Harrisburg) went 5-for-5 with a triple and double and Melissa Berrier (Mifflin) went 2-for-3.
