Ryan F. Walls Named 'Student of the Month' for March

Ryan F. WallsRyan F. Walls, a plastics and polymer engineering technology major from Mansfield, has been chosen as the Student Government Association's "Student of the Month" for March.

An SGA senator from the School of Industrial and Engineering Technologies, Walls was the first sophomore ever to be named "lead student engineer" for the college's Plastics Manufacturing Center. He is an active member of the Society of Plastics Engineers and is an ambassador for a mobile lab used to help build interest in plastics careers among high school students.

"Ryan has exhibited a commitment to SGA, SPE and leadership with the plastics program," his faculty nominator wrote. "He provides a positive example of how to meld extracurricular activities with the required academic studies."

He recently finished an eight-month Penn College Cooperative Education experience in the research and development department of Ethicon Endo-Surgery, a Cincinnati-based Johnson & Johnson company that develops and markets advanced surgical instruments and medical devices.

Among Walls' other activities, he is a tutor and a Habitat for Humanity volunteer.
