Penn College's printer/fax-cartridge recycling program marks two notable achievements this month: the one-year anniversary of the program and surpassing $3,000 raised for the general scholarship fund.
The Penn College Foundation recently received the check for $382 from the Cartridge World store at 1818 E. Third St. in Williamsport, for empty inkjet, laser and fax-machine cartridges turned in by Penn College employees and students. That brings the total raised by the program, which started in March 2006, to $3,206.
The recycling program accepts empty inkjet and laser cartridges and fax-machine cartridges made by HP, Lexmark, Canon, Dell, Epson and Brother. The cartridges can come from college- or home-owned printers and fax machines.
Students and employees can drop their empty printer and fax-machine cartridges in the cartridge-recycling bins located near the Student Activities desk in the Bush Campus Center, at the General Services building and in on-campus student housing complexes. Cartridges also can be sent through interoffice mail to Joe Geffre, director of mail and document services, at DIF #167.
"Thanks again to Joe Geffre for all his assistance in initiating this program," said Joann Kay, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. "This is a great way to save landfill space and help students succeed!"
