'Cat TalesWomen's BasketballTrailing by eight points at halftime and by as many as 12 early in the second half against Penn State Hazleton, the Lady Wildcats rallied behind Amanda Ault (Milan) and Amy Fassett (Ulster) Saturday for a win that lifted the defending Penn State University Athletic Conference champions into the PSUAC Final Four Friday at the Bryce Jordan Center on Penn State?s main campus. Ault finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots; Fassett added 16 points and eight assists; and Brittany Blessard (Renovo) came through with 14 points, despite getting into early foul trouble.

The key to the comeback against Penn State Hazleton was limiting its own fouling in the second half and applying more defensive pressure, Penn College coach Ron Kodish said. "They (Hazleton) were 13 of 15 in the first half. We put them on the line too often," the coach said.

"At the end, I think we wore them down," he continued, pointing out that, although his squad was only 20 of 35 at the foul line, it hit key shots down the stretch. "It was a real team effort (by Penn College). They (Hazleton) were warriors. Hazleton has a bunch of tough kids."

In its only meeting during the regular season at home with Penn State Delaware, its semifinal opponent at 4 p.m. Friday at Bryce Jordan Center, the Wildcats lost, 62-55.

Men's VolleyballThe Wildcats had no trouble against Haverford, winning 25-12, 25-12, 25-14, and made a seven-hour roundtrip for the visitors seem even longer.

ArcheryAt the Virginia Indoor Championships at Fairfax, Va. on Feb. 24, Michelle Wright (Kendall, N.Y.) finished second in female compound while Ryan Rambo (Millville) placed third in the men's compound division and Chris Adams (Pen Argyl) was third in men's recurve. James Madison University, the only other college entered, took first place in all of the team competitions.

"We do have some work to do. James Madison is the No. 1 team to beat, in my book. We got to see what they are made of, and saw some things we've got to work on," Penn College coach Chad Karstetter said.
