A Pennsylvania College of Technology professor recently published an essay and was chosen to read papers at conferences for international organizations.
Mark D. Noe, professor of English and composition, published an essay titled "Cather's 'O Pioneers!'" in the Spring 2006 issue of The Explicator. The Explicator is a quarterly journal that publishes scholarly analyses of literary poetry and prose.
In April, Noe read a paper, "By Fits and Starts: The Genesis of a Series Detective," at the joint meeting of the Popular Culture Association and the American Culture Association in Atlanta.
He read a paper titled "Drifting, Hopeless, Obviously Incompetent ... Successes: Bill Barrett's Pulp Pugilists" at the annual meeting of the Sport Literature Association at Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif., in June.
Noe has taught English at Penn College for six years, and his writings have appeared in such journals as Aethlon and War, Literature & the Arts, among others. He has also published essays in several books, as well as numerous book reviews.
Noe trained as a Victorianist in a doctoral program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, though most of his recent work has concentrated on 20th century American writers. He earned his master's degree from Sangamon State University and his bachelor's degree at Bradley University.
