Beginning in September, Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro will offer a new six-month program preparing students for a career in administrative office practice.
The 600-hour noncredit program consists of classroom and computer instruction to prepare participants to perform general administrative, secretarial, receptionist and office duties in various types of businesses, industrial and professional offices. A 160-hour externship will be the capstone of the course.
Topics of concentration include: communication skills, advanced computer skills, office equipment, office management, human resources, job-search skills and career planning. The program is designed to give participants the practical skills needed to keep offices running smoothly and to meet the needs of the constantly changing office environment.
Employers report a growing need for well-trained administrative assistants and office staff. Following completion of the program, employment may be found in a variety of situations including insurance offices, educational institutions, law offices, banks and financial institutions, real estate agencies, businesses, human resource offices, and government.
