Adults who would like to learn more about wine and wine-and-food pairings may enroll in either of two noncredit courses being offered in July at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Both courses, which are offered through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College, will be held over dinner at Le Jeune Chef Restaurant on the college's main campus in Williamsport.
On July 19, "Pairing Wine and Food: The Flavor Elements That Make Wine Taste Great, Featuring California Wines" will help participants learn how to select an appropriate wine with a meal. The class will explore and discuss the possibility that foods influence how a wine will taste and learn that what we know about food flavors is key to making successful wine choices for a formal dinner or a simple get-together with friends.
A course titled "The Other White Wines" will be offered July 26, during which participants will try six wines including Alvarhino, Cortest, Gruner Veltliner and Pinot Blanc as they explore the great heritage of wine-making and the food-friendly white wines that are part of that tradition.
Both courses will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m., and each costs $89. The instructor is Paul E. Mach, assistant professor of hospitality management/culinary arts at Penn College.
