The first Honors Program study-abroad venture concluded Monday, when four students returned from a two-week tour of Sweden and Latvia. The group studied the culture and maritime traditions of those nations in support of their program theme, "The Maritime World," and traveled extensively by boat including two 17-hour ferry transits from Sweden to Latvia. Thomas E. Ask, associate professor of HVAC technology/mechanical refrigeration and design (and coordinator of Penn College's honors program), said the students' activities included viewing the wonderfully preserved 17th-century warship Vasa and attending a folk high school where traditional boat-building methods are taught. The students' trip reports, to be completed by the end of June, will be available in the Penn College Library.
