A West Chester firm that designs and builds mobile drilling rigs has established a scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The Schramm, Inc. Scholarship Fund will generate awards for students beginning with the Fall 2006 semester. The fund will provide six awards of $2,500 each, split between the fall and spring semesters.
"Our partnership with Penn College is of strategic importance to our company," said Edward J. Breiner, president and chief executive officer of Schramm Inc. "The quality of their staff and programs has been evident in the graduates we have hired. It's an outstanding school that has proven to be a perfect fit for Schramm."
In the initial year, preference will be given to full-time students from Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton or Philadelphia counties who are enrolled in Penn College's heavy construction equipment technology-technician associate-degree major, the welding technology associate-degree major or the welding certificate major. A minimum grade-point average of 2.5 is required for consideration.
In subsequent years, as directed by the donor, preference may also be given to students from those counties who are enrolled in the welding and fabrication engineering technology bachelor-degree major, the machinist general certificate major, the computer-aided drafting technology associate-degree major or the computer-aided product design bachelor-degree major.
"Penn College is very fortunate to partner with Schramm Inc.," said Debra Mader Miller, director of corporate relations at the college. "This new scholarship exemplifies Schramm's commitment to Penn College and our students, and we appreciate their enthusiasm and support."
Schramm Inc. manufactures Rotadrill truck, trailer and track-mounted mobile drilling rigs for a wide range of applications in the drilling industry. More information is available online.
