'Stories in a Basket' Raffle to Benefit New Madigan Library
Thursday, April 20, 2006
Pennsylvania College of Technology will host a unique "'Stories in a Basket' Basket Ballyhoo" raffle event on April 28 to raise funds for the new Roger and Peggy Madigan Library, set to open on campus in time for the Fall 2006 semester.
Penn College employees and student groups donated items to fill baskets based on a chosen book. Themes for the 39 packages represent an array of interests including food, travel, hobbies and literature and are contained in "baskets" ranging from luggage to lawn chairs. The packages range in value up to $550.
The public is invited to the free event, which will be held at the college's Thompson Professional Development Center. Participants can enter to win their favorite baskets, participate in a silent auction, receive door prizes and enjoy refreshments. Individuals may purchase one or more sheets of 10 tickets. After previewing the options, ticket holders may drop their tickets into the drop boxes that correspond with the baskets they wish to win. A ticket will be drawn from each basket's drop box, and the winning number will be announced.
The doors will open at 5 p.m., and winners will be announced beginning at 7 p.m.
Master of ceremonies for the event will be Tom Speicher, video production developer for the college who also has served as host of the television program "Penn College & You" and co-host of the college's "You're the Chef" cooking series.
In addition to the "Stories in a Basket" packages, a drawing will be held for two high-end baskets: a Community Arts Center basket that includes tickets for performances, refreshments in the Patron's Lounge, movie passes and more; and a Le Jeune Chef basket that includes certificates for dinners and brunches at the restaurant, as well as other treats. A silent auction and a raffle for door prizes are also planned.
