Jennifer C. Blew, who will graduate in August with a bachelor's degree in applied health studies-paramedic technology, has been chosen as Pennsylvania College of Technology's "Student of the Month" for April.
"'Student of the Year' would be more appropriate," her four faculty/staff nominators concurred. "She is truly a mentor to her classmates, as well as the personification of what a Student Ambassador should be."
Blew, a former State College resident now living in South Williamsport, has been an emergency medical technician for various Penn College sporting events over the past two years, is a highly regarded work-study student and volunteer tutor to classmates, and has racked up an impressive array of volunteer campus activities including the SMART Girls program that encourages young women's involvement in the sciences.
"The paramedic technology curriculum is quite challenging, with the numerous hours of field and clinical requirements outside of the didactic classroom activities," the testimonial continued. "However, when Jenny is asked what she has been up to, the reply almost inevitably involves her keeping busy with some sort of volunteer activity, hanging posters to promote a campus activity or department, or helping someone study. It is never a chore for her, but something that makes her light up as she explains what wonderful opportunities there are for students on campus.
"Jenny Blew is a person who is driven to do her best, but gladly will take along anyone who is interested," her nominators wrote.
The college's Student Government Association regularly selects a "Student of the Month" based on commitment, service, role-model behavior, academics, leadership and campus involvement.
