Penn College Students Compete in Mid-Atlantic Woodsmen's Meet

Eighteen students from Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Natural Resources Management competed in the Mid-Atlantic Woodsmen's Meet, held earlier this month at Montgomery Community College in Troy, N.C.
The meet is held annually among forestry schools from Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and North Carolina, bringing students together for a weekend of competition in such diverse events as pole climbing, log rolling, speed chopping, buck sawing and axe throwing. Penn College hosted the event in 2004.
Penn College students and the events in which they placed:
- Team Pulp Toss for Accuracy (second place) Chad D. Brooks, Reynoldsville; Thomas W. Barefoot, Wilmington, Del.; Jeremiah T. Sox, Lock Haven; Robert J. Trumpie, Emporium; Paul H. Fetterolf, Ashland; and Candice R. Eggler, Loganton.
- Pulp Toss for Distance (second place) Benjamin A. Pupek VI, Pottstown.
- Women's Crosscut (second place) Shannon L. Emig, Williamsport; and Eggler.
- Pulp Toss for Distance (third place) Andrew M. Auchenbach, Robesonia.
- Pulp Toss for Accuracy (third place) Emig.
- Axe Throw (third place) Katie Sue McCaslin, Lock Haven.
- Log Roll (third place) Eggler.
- Water Boil (fourth place) Fetterolf and McCaslin.
- Chain Saw (fourth place) Auchenbach.
- Bolt Split (fourth place) Eggler.
- Single Buck (fourth place) Zachary J. Good, Shinglehouse.
Anthony J. Tettis, Ridgway, placed fifth in the STIHL Timbersports qualifying event, which consisted of underhand chop, single buck and stock chain saw.
With the exception of Eggler, who is a landscape/nursery technology student, the Penn College competitors are enrolled in the forest technology major. The group was accompanied to the April 1 event by Dennis F. Ringling, professor of forestry, and Donald Nibert, assistant professor of forestry.
