The Central Susquehanna Association for the Education of Young Children will hold its 11th annual conference April 8 at Pennsylvania College of Technology's Klump Academic Center.
Leanne Grace and Gerry Hart of Rainbow Hill School in Shickshinny will offer a keynote address, after which participants may choose from 30 workshop sessions. Session topics range from "Early Literacy" and "Math Skills for Young Children" to "Ask a Lawyer."
Three of the workshops will be offered by staff of the Children's Learning Center, Penn College's child-care and early childhood education facility.
Barbara J. Albert, group leader at the center, will present "Great Questions to Ask Children." Kathryn P. Jerald, group leader, and Jennifer N. Fullmer, assistant group leader, will collaborate for a workshop on "Making Science Fun for Toddlers." Group leader Gail B. Landers will present "Potter Pals."
The conference will also include the presentation of the Outstanding Early Educator Award to one of the area preschool teachers nominated by colleagues, as well as exhibits by commercial vendors and nonprofit organizations, door prizes, and lunch.
Participants will be able to earn workshop training hours, continuing education credits and Act 48 credit.
Walk-in registrations will be accepted at the Klump Academic Center on the morning of the conference.
The Central Susquehanna Association for the Education of Young Children is the local affiliate for the National Association for the Education of Young Children, with 125 members from Lycoming, Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Northumberland, Montour, Snyder and Union counties. Members include preschool, child-care, Head Start, and elementary teachers and administrators, as well as others interested in the care and education of children ages birth to 8.
