Going into his team's first outing of the season, Pennsylvania College of Technology archery coach Chad Karstetter knew that Michelle Wright was shooting well. And her results at the Pennsylvania Indoor Target Championship proved just that.
Wright, a junior from Kendall, N.Y., won the collegiate division female compound championship. Her 564 points eclipsed by two the state record set last year by now graduated teammate Karen Morse of Canton.
"She did really well," Karstetter said of his newest state champ.
Wright wasn't the only bright spot for the Wildcats. Sarah Wilson, a junior from Tyrone, placed third in the college division female compound; Jessica Larson, a freshman from Montoursville, was fourth in the same division; Nate Potteiger, a junior from Middletown, finished third in male college compound; and Chris Keiper, a freshman from Sidman, was fourth in male college compound.
Also for Penn College, Chris Adams (Pen Argyl) was fifth, Jason Kornbau (Red Lion) and Mark Lambert (Venus) 11 th in male recurve; Ryan Rambo (Millville) was sixth, Shawn Tappen (Wellsville) sixth and Brock Smith (Brookville) eighth in male compound; and Lindsey Fackler (Halifax) sixth in female compound.
"I was very pleased. Most all of them shot their average and usually, in competition, you're a little below your average. They did very well," Karstetter said.
Teamwise, according to Karstetter, Penn College took first place in the men's and women's compound, ahead of Thaddeus Stevens and Penn State, and was second in men's recurve behind Thaddeus Stevens.
Morse, who graduated last spring, captured the state female senior compound division with 556 points.
