Director of Factory Built Housing Center Presents at NAHB Showcase
Tuesday, January 24, 2006
Frederick G. "Rick" Terry, director of the Factory Built Housing Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently presented to a group of builders, manufacturers and other industry attendees at the 20th Annual National Association of Homebuilders' Building Systems Council Showcase.
The event, which had been scheduled to take place in New Orleans, was moved to Louisville, Ky., because of the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina.
Terry's session featured examples of training, education and research that the FBHC provides to the building systems industry, including one of its flagship courses "Introduction to Site Management of Modular Construction" through the Modular Housing Training Institute, which has hosted more than 58 courses and 867 participants from across the nation since its inception in 1999.
Attendees were particularly interested in the ability of the FBHC to provide customized, industry-specific workforce training and education through Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College. Terry also offered a live demonstration of the new MHTI online course that allows industry members to take advantage of distance learning when they cannot attend the two-day classroom version.
After the presentation, Terry spoke with representatives of many leading manufacturers about various industry issues and their support for the growth of the FBHC.
