'Cat TalesMen's Basketball The Wildcat men evened their overall record at 7-7 and improved to 7-1 in the Penn State University-Athletic Conference with a home win over Penn State Scranton. Penn College built a 52-30 halftime lead and held on in the second half. Pacing the offense were Matt Melusky (Minersville) with 22 points, Craig Flint (Port Allegany) with 18, Matt Michaels (Williamsport) with 13 and Rob Valentin (Lebanon) with 10.
Women's Basketball Back in action after a month-long layoff for the semester break, the Lady Wildcats returned against Division III Centenary (N.J.) College. The score was tied at 29 at halftime, but Penn College ran out of "gas" in the second half and lost by nine. Katlyn Stupar (State College) led Penn College scorers with 13 points and Brittany Blessard (Renovo) added 11. Blessard and newcomer Sarah Mehlman (North Schuylkill) each had a pair of 3-pointers for the Wildcats.
Against Penn State Scranton in a Penn State University-Athletic Conference game where it is still unbeaten, Penn College raced to a 42-9 halftime lead and was never seriously challenged. Blessard led the 10-player scoring parade with 22 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Lady Wildcats were Stupar with 17 and Erin Mahoney (Conneaut Valley) and Amanda Turner (Montrose) with 10 each.
