'Cat TalesMen's Basketball Balanced scoring, with five players in double digits led by Tony Flint's 15 points, and a second-half rally led the Wildcats past Penn State DuBois. Also scoring in double figures for Penn College were Matt Melusky (Minersville) with 13, Preston Peterson (Williamsport) and Craig Flint (Port Allegany) with 11 each and Nick Reynolds (Athens) with 10. Peterson and Melusky each pulled down 12 rebounds. Two foul shots by Peterson gave Penn College the lead with 19 seconds remaining and Reynolds stole the ball on the next possession to lock the win.
In a win over Penn State Schuylkill that pushed the Wildcats' record above .500, Melusky scored 16 points and hauled in 11 rebounds while Tom Little (Woodland Regional, Conn.) scored 10 points and Peterson dished out seven assists.
After hosting Penn State Fayette on Tuesday, the Penn College men close out the first semester part of their schedule with games against several NCAA Division III foes. On Wednesday, they are at Susquehanna University, on Friday and Saturday they compete in a tournament at Messiah, facing Cabrini in the opening round Friday and either Messiah or Hood College on Saturday. They then close the stretch out at crosstown rival Lycoming College on Dec. 19.
Women's Basketball Brittany Blessard (Renovo) scored 21 points, Katlyn Stupar (State College) 17, Amy Fassett (Athens) 16, including five 3-pointers, and Natali Plavi (Elderton) 12 as Penn College topped Penn State Hazleton.
Stupar scored 18 points while Blessard added 11 and Plavi and Erin Mahoney (Conneaut Valley) 10 each as the Lady Wildcats beat Penn State Schuylkill for their fourth win in a row.
This week the Penn College women step things up a notch by playing three NCAA Division III teams. The Wildcats are at Marywood University on Monday, host Susquehanna University on Wednesday and travel to Elmira (N.Y.) College on Saturday.
