All 14 episodes from the most recent season of "You're the Chef" now are available for free, online viewing anywhere in the world, thanks to Google Video. The videos are linked from the "You're the Chef" Web site .
Google Video , still in the "beta" (or testing) phase, offers viewers a way to see material from archived TV programs, educational videos, personal productions and more.
Tom Speicher, video production developer and co-host of "You're the Chef" with Paul E. Mach, assistant professor of food and hospitality management/culinary arts, coordinated the effort after reading in trade publications last year that Google was initiating a video service.
He said Google was very interested in the strong content offered by "You're the Chef" and, eventually, with the stellar work of David N. Hull in digitizing the episodes, the most recent season was uploaded to Google. Hull is a mass media communications major from Annville.
"It's exciting to be part of Google video and it will be interesting to see the growth of the service when the beta phase ends," Speicher said. "It's especially rewarding because Google Video could become a vital research tool for students worldwide. Not only will people be entertained by 'You're the Chef' online, the episodes can enhance the education of students from all corners of the globe interested in the culinary arts. What a tremendous legacy that could be for the series."
One of the episodes, "Asian Adventure," already has been singled out for inclusion in the weekly Official Google Video Blog.
"The brand new blog celebrates exceptional content submissions and showcases the democratic and diverse nature of the material we host on Google Video," a spokesperson explained. "Each week, we feature a handful of videos on this blog, ones we feel represent the power of the Internet for sharing and distributing multimedia content."
