Faculty Member Has Essay Published in Anthology

Karen J. EliasKaren J. Elias, a part-time instructor of English at Pennsylvania College of Technology, had an essay published recently in an anthology.

The essay, "Mirror," appears in "Under Her Skin: How Girls Experience Race in America," a collection of works edited by Pooja Makhijani and published by Seal Press. Elias' essay is an excerpt from her memoir-in-progress, tentatively titled "White Bodies."

Elias was an associate professor at the State University of New York at Oswego and an assistant professor at Lock Haven University. In addition to Penn College, she also held adjunct teaching positions at Drexel University, Philadelphia University and The Pennsylvania State University.

She has been honored with a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Fellowship, a Danforth Graduate Fellowship for Women and a SUNY Oswego research grant. Several journals have published Elias' scholarly and creative essays.

Elias holds a doctorate in literature from Union Graduate School. She completed a master's degree and additional advanced work at Purdue University and earned a bachelor's degree from Wilson College.
