CC Commons, Penn College's newest dining unit on campus, has opened on the first floor of the Bush Campus Center. Designed to be an all-you-can-eat facility for students with board meal plans, italso has a cash price for declining-balance or cash customers.
Menus at CC Commons change from lunch to dinner, and every day there is a different selection. The dining unit features homemade desserts and Edy's gourmet ice cream in four flavors. On the buffet are several hot entrees, two soups, two potato and vegetable choices, a full salad bar, beverage station and bread station.
A carving station for ham, roast beef, turkey and pork can be found at dinnertime on various evenings throughout the cycle menu. Other feature nights will be taco bars, pizza nights, baked-potato bars and fajita bars. A nationally branded concept, Jump Asian cuisine, is also a featured item on the evening buffet.
According to Linda A. Sweely, director of Food Services, CC Commons was designed to address the growing population of students who want board plans.
By having a meal plan that allows a certain number of all-you-can-eat meals per week, there isn't the need for frequent add-ons of money, such as occurs with a declining-balance meal plan. A student is assured to have meals available throughout the course of the semester and can benefit from the special theme dinners that Food Services units offer such as lobster night and it only counts as one meal on their plan.
"CC Commons also addresses students' request to have breakfast items available longer during the day. Since the Susquehanna Room transitions from breakfast to lunch at 10:30, with CC Commons opening at 10:30, we offer breakfast items on the buffet for the late risers," Sweely said. "Students can find such favorites as waffles, french toast or Penn Muffins on the buffet from 10:30 until into the afternoon."
Another favorite item at CC Commons is the Edy's ice cream machine. On any given day, students might find such flavors as: Double Dutch Chocolate, Butterfinger Blast, Espresso Chip, Malt Ball, fat-free Peaches and Cream, Rocky Road, Yogurt Strawberry Cheesecake, and Vanilla with Snickers.
What better way to top off a home-cooked meal than with great ice cream and homemade desserts? The college's in-house bakery is producing cakes, cookies and delectable desserts for CC Commons and Food Services Sweet Sensations program.
CC Commons hours are: Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; and Saturday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
