Pennsylvania College of Technology and Caterpillar Inc. have presented the third annual "Pathfinder to Excellence" faculty award to an instructor of diesel equipment technology.
David C. Johnson was presented with the award during a recent gathering of Caterpillar officials and dealers − several Penn College alumni among them − in the college's Professional Development Center. The honor, conferred in a vote by faculty/staff and students, recognizes an instructor's teaching methods, learning materials, sensitivity to student needs and high academic standards.
Among the nominators' comments about this year's honoree:
- "I was new to diesel and he made sure I could keep up with the class"
- "Makes sure (the) job is done right as required in the field"
- "Always . . . there for (a) student in need"
In the ceremony in the PDC's Mountain Laurel Room, Johnson received a commemorative plaque and a cash award of $1,000. The award is funded by matching contributions from the Caterpillar Foundation and five regional heavy-equipment dealerships.
Participating dealers are Alban Tractor Co. Inc., Baltimore; Beckwith Machinery Co., Murrysville; Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co. Inc., Harrisburg; Ransome CAT, Bensalem; and H.O. Penn Machinery Co. Inc., Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
