A Pennsylvania College of Technology student took home second-place honors in the national SkillsUSA Championships, held June 23-24 in Kansas City, Mo.
Raul Guzman of Teaneck, N.J., a senior in the automotive technology management major, won a silver medal in the Automotive Service Technology competition.
Two other Penn College students, Thomas A. Hendershot of Mill Hall, a junior in the information technology-network specialist major; and Austin M. Upright of Montoursville, a sophomore in the surveying technology major, competed at the championships − in the Internetworking and Technical Drafting categories, respectively.
Faculty advisers accompanying the Penn College SkillsUSA student competitors were Edward L. Roadarmel, assistant professor of drafting and CAD technology; and Larry B. Leavitt, associate professor of automotive technology.
The SkillsUSA Championships brought together more than 4,500 competitors in 80 events. Since 2000, 50 Penn College students have gone on to compete at the national SkillsUSA level, with15 of them returning as medalists.
