Mark A. Trueman, a faculty member in the paramedic program at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was named "Instructor of the Year" for Lycoming County by the Lycoming County Department of Public Safety.
According to the tribute presented by Wendy S. Hastings, emergency medical services program manager for the Lycoming, Tioga and Sullivan EMS Council, Trueman "has been described by his students as an excellent instructor with superior knowledge of not only the subject matter that he instructs, but also how to share it with his students in a way that makes it applicable and meaningful."
He was also called a role model as both an exceptional care provider and instructor.
"He always pushes his students to strive for the highest goals and not just settle for the bare minimum," Hastings said.
The Instructor of the Year award is given by the Lycoming County Department of Public Safety at the annual Regional Emergency Medical Services Council banquet. Nomination forms are sent to all emergency medical services providers in the county. Hastings said Trueman's nominators include paramedics who are former students at Penn College.
"He's an all-around great guy," Hastings said. "He's a very skilled clinical instructor, and people really have a great deal of respect for him."
Trueman has been an instructor at Penn College since 2000. In addition to teaching in the college's School of Health Sciences, he volunteers his time to instruct continuing-education courses throughout the Lycoming, Tioga and Sullivan County EMS region.
"I have shared the classroom with many motivated students, presently and in the past," Trueman said. "To be recognized by their nominations and this award is truly appreciated."
"Mark is a stand-up guy, a great educator and someone we are very fortunate to have here at Penn College, so it's nice to see him get some recognition," said Erich J. Frank, director of the paramedic program at Penn College.
