Clifford P. Coppersmith, assistant dean of the School of Integrated Studies at Pennsylvania College of Technology, recently was honored by Jamestown Community College as a distinguished alumnus.
Every year, Jamestown Community College selects alumni who have made major contributions in public service and in their professions.
Coppersmith, who has headed liberal arts at Penn College since 2004, is a 1984 JCC alumnus. A member of the College of Eastern Utah's history faculty from 1996 to 2003 and its interim vice president of academic affairs from 2003-04, Coppersmith was honored three times by CEU as an outstanding instructor.
He earned a bachelor's degree at Brigham Young University, a master's degree at St. Bonaventure University, and a doctorate at Oklahoma State University. He served as an intelligence officer and military analyst with the CIA from 1988-91.
Coppersmith has published a variety of articles and book reviews on American Indian history. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Alpha Theta honor societies, the Western History Association, the Lycoming County Historical Society and the North Central Chapter of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology. He has also been honored in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers."
He and his wife, Kathleen, live in Williamsport and have three children.
