Michelle McGann, winner of seven Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour events, will be the visiting pro at the 19th Annual Golf Classic, to be hosted May 9 at the Williamsport Country Club by the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation.
Net proceeds will be used to support The Penn College Foundation Golf Classic Scholarship. This endowed fund has grown to be the single largest source of nongovernment-funded scholarship support awarded to Penn College students. Proceeds from the tournament have provided more than $196,000 in scholarship awards to 210 students since 1990.
McGann, 35, has career earnings of more than $3 million on the LPGA Tour. She is the winner of the Youngstown Classic (1995 and 1996), the Sara Lee Classic (1995), the State Farm Rail Classic (1996), the Oldsmobile Classic (1996), the Shoprite LPGA Classic (1997) and the Healthsouth Inaugural (1997).
In 1996, McGann was a member of the victorious U.S. Solheim Cup Team. In addition, her 4-0 playoff record is tied as the best in LPGA history.
A resident of Singer Island, Fla., McGann is a three-time Florida State Junior champion. She joined the tour in 1988 at the age of 18 after qualifying on her first attempt.
McGann, who has used an insulin pump since 1999, is the founder of the Michelle McGann Golf Classic to benefit the Diabetes Research Institute. She is noted for her winning personality and demeanor with golf crowds.
