Monday, April 18, 2005
The team working at The Village was crowned the winner of this past weekend's "Monster Hut" competition, which concluded Sunday with an awards ceremony in the Professional Development Center courtyard.
Team members were Matthew Divok, Steven Zomerfeld III, David Harrington, Jason Maddox, David Baker, Curtis Graf and faculty adviser Clifford Jones.
The winning team received prizes from Marc E. Bridgens, assistant dean of construction and design technologies; Jill S. Landesberg-Boyle, vice president for student affairs; and Wallace Gillespie, representing Kohl Building Products.
Kohl, located locally in Montoursville, donated $300 gift certificates to be given to each member of the wining team.
All other teams in the competition were awarded second place, as the judges found it difficult to decide among several projects that were completed with a high qualilty of craftsmanship.
The huts make a great addition to the on-campus residential complexes and will be used by a countless future generations of Penn College students.
Other sponsors for the event included Lezzer Lumber Co. in Pennsdale, which donated $150 gift certificates for members of the second-place team; and Lewis Lumber in Picture Rocks, Erie Materials in Linden, and East End Lumber in Williamsport, all of which provided $75 gift certificates to be used as fourth-place prices.
