With all of the construction at Pennsylvania College of Technology over the past several years, it might be surprising that a special ceremony would be held to unveil a new wall. But as Penn College President Dr. Davie Jane Gilmour noted, this is no "ordinary" wall.
The new Donor Wall, located in the lobby of the Student and Administrative Services Center, pays permanent tribute to significant personal and corporate donations made to the College from 1982 through 2004.
The ceremony to unveil the wall was held Thursday, April14, revealing an original design by architect Benedict Dubbs of Murray and Associates Architects, Harrisburg. The design includes grey glass pieces etched with the names of the donors and attached to a frame of steel rods.
The wall honors donors at five levels, beginning at $25,000 and ranging up to a "Millionaire's Society." Currently, 92 donors are honored on the wall, with space to add many more in the coming years.
"Our wall has the structural integrity and adaptability to respond to changing conditions, much like Penn College," Gilmour said during welcoming remarks at the dedication ceremony. Also speaking at the ceremony was Robert E. Dunham, chairman of the Penn College Board of Directors.
"Generous support from individuals and business and industry enables Penn College to offer a top-quality, hands-on technical education at a reasonable cost to our students," he said.
