Wendy Mertzeis, a Resident Assistant at Rose Street Apartments, recently was named Penn College's "Resident Assistant of the Month." A junior from Tionesta, majoring in Web Design, she is in her first year as a Resident Assistant. Mertzeis was selected because of her great attitude, her willingness to get involved with major programming efforts and her solid dedication to all aspects of the position.
She says she applied for the position after a couple of years of living on campus under the supervision of other Resident Assistants. During that time, she got ideas − from a resident's perspective − about the qualities that make a good RA. Now that she is one, she tries to remember what it was like to be a new student during her first couple of years at Penn College and how she can help others have a positive experience. Appropriately enough, she is serving as a Resident Assistant in the First Year Experience Housing program.
In addition to being a Resident Assistant, Mertzeis also serves as programming coordinator for the Wildcat Events Board, is an active member of the Residence Hall Association and works part time in the Office of Student Activities.
