The Occupational Therapy Assistant Club is sponsoring a fund-raiser from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday in the ATHS lobby to help support a Habitat for Humanity project that benefits an alumna of the occupational therapy assistant program.
Susan Getgen, a 1998 graduate of Penn College, has been selected as a recipient for a fully handicapped-accessible home. Since graduation, she has worked as a certified occupational therapy assistant at the Children's Development Center in Williamsport. Susan and her 16-year-old son, Daniel, reside in a 28-year-old trailer that was set up in 1982 as a temporary shelter. Daniel suffers from a variety of congenital birth defects, requires oxygen 24 hours a day and has limited speech abilities. He attends the Jersey Shore Area School District in a life skills support classroom.
The estimated cost of the project is $85,000 and construction is expected to be completed by October. OTA club students also will be volunteering to work on the house this summer.
The club invites the campus community to stop by and support this worthy cause. The club will be selling hot dogs, nachos and baked goods, and will be glad to accept a donation.
Checks can be made out to Williamsport/Lycoming Habitat for Humanity Inc. Getgen House. If you are unable to make it to the sale, but would still like to donate, please contact Pat Martin, club adviser, at ext. 7571, and arrangements will be made for a club member to pick up your donation.
