Spirited SGA Race, Ease of Online Voting Fuel Above-Average Turnout
Thursday, March 31, 2005
On Wednesday night, the Student Government Association announced the results from last week's four-day online election.
"We had an outstanding turnout, with nearly 10 percent of the student body voting this year − up from only 2 percent last year," noted Joshua Appleman, SGA's academic vice president and election chair. "The success of this election can be attributed to both a heated campaign for the office of president and a new online voting system, courtesy of our (Information Technology Services) department." The national average for student-governments is 2-percent voter turnout, he noted.
