Construction of the Roger and Peggy Madigan Library has commenced at the main entrance to Pennsylvania College of Technology.
On Monday, work crews began moving snow that had piled up over the weekend. They also located and marked utility lines, and, on Tuesday, excavation work began at the site.
The contractors for the project are: General Contractor, Lobar Inc., Dillsburg; Plumbing , W.G. Tomko Inc., Finleyville; HVAC, Silvertip Inc., Lewisburg; Electric, G.R. Noto Electrical Construction, Clarks Summit; Systems, Johnson Controls Inc., Camp Hill.
Graham B. Spanier, president of The Pennsylvania State University, mentioned the library at the conclusion of his Jan. 21 report to the Penn State Board of Trustees.
His remarks follow:
"Finally, I would like to offer congratulations to Emeritus Trustee and State Sen. Roger Madigan, whose hard work in the Legislature on behalf of Penn College was noted two weeks ago when the college held a unique groundbreaking ceremony for the Roger and Peggy Madigan Library that will be constructed at the main entrance to Penn College.
"Participants at the event watched through third-floor windows of the Student and Administrative Services Center as the footprint for the building was outlined with a string of lights and a fireworks display commenced. A portrait of Sen. Madigan and his late wife − which will hang in the library upon completion in the summer of 2006 − was unveiled as well.
"Congratulations to Roger on this wonderful recognition."
