Chuck Kline (Middletown) went 4-for-7 at the plate with a double in the twin bill. Tim Holton (Avon Grove) was 2-for-2 at the plate in the first game and pitcher Jared Rabell (Northwestern) tossed a two-hitter in the nightcap.Men's SoccerJordan Myers (York) scored two goals and Mike Angell (Central York) had a goal and two assists in leading Penn College past Penn State-Delaware. Angell had a goal and assist in the Wildcats' win over Penn State-York. In a Saturday victory over always-tough Manor College, Angell scored a hat trick and increased his team lead in scoring to 12 goals on the year. He also has eight assists.Women's SoccerThe lone bright spot for Penn College in its match against Manor College was a nice goal by Marilyn Caldwell (R.J. Reynolds, N.C.) on an assist from Nicole Crouse (West York). The match was called in the 70th minute because of lightning.Cross Country Continued success was expected for the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's team this season, while the women's squad was rebuilding. But, on Saturday, both came through with flying colors by claiming Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championships. In addition, Wildcat coach Mike Paulhamus was named "coach of the year." In men's competition during its final EPCC meet of the season, Penn College had 31 points, Penn State-Schuylkill 50, and Penn State-Scranton and Luzerne County Community College 80 each. The Penn College men finished 11-0 in league competition. Among the women's teams, Penn College had 24 points, Penn State-DuBois 29, Community College of Philadelphia 45, Penn State-Scranton 50 and Penn State-Schuylkill 51. The Lady Wildcats were 6-0 in the league this season. "The women worked hard. . . . Our girls are not the fastest, but we grouped them together for scoring purposes. It's all about the grouping," Paulhamus said. Individually for the Wildcat men, Dan Arminavage (Annville-Cleona) finished third in 29:11, Tom Lambert (Bangor) was fifth, Justin Alberts (Greenwood) was eighth, Jamie King (Scranton) was ninth, Joe Addesso (Exeter) was 10th, Ryan Lampart (Hazleton) was 11th, Tyler Hoffman (Carlisle) was 19th, Michael Womelsdorf (Allentown-Dieruff) was 22nd and Zach Ireland (Milton) was 36th. At the beginning of the season, Paulhamus was concerned that several of his men had never competed at the 5-mile distance before, but said, "they have adapted very quickly to that distance of a race and now we are comparable to last year's (championship) team." Jennie Mull (Huntingdon) led the Penn College women over a 3.1-mile course with a fourth-place finish in 23:48 and was followed by Rachel Sledzinski (Western Wayne) who was fifth, Jen Friese (Chambersburg) who was eighth and Tracey Seylar (Chambersburg) was 11th. "I have to thank two of the girls (Mull and Friese), they're the ones who went out and recruited the others (so that we could have a team). It's to their benefit that we could have a team," Paulhamus said. In preparation for the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association-Commonwealth Campus Athletic Association championships in two weeks at Penn State, the Wildcats will run this Saturday at the Bloomsburg Invitational. "Bloomsburg has a difficult course that will prep us for the Penn State course. The girls, instead of running 3.1 miles, will be running 3.5 at this meet and it will be 3.5 at Penn State. This will be a good pre-meet for them," Paulhamus said. Penn College men's cross country teams previously won championships in 1982, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002 and last year. Lady Wildcat teams won titles in 1996, 1997, 1999 and in 2001.Women's Volleyball Against Penn State-New Kensington, Janell Thompson (Northern Potter) had 12 kills, Marie Bova (Bethlehem Catholic) 13 digs, Amber Geckle (Indian Valley) tallied 26 assists and Sara Gamble (Northern Potter) had 10 digs and was perfect on her serves. Winning on the road at Penn State-Beaver, Thompson again had 12 kills while Natalie Plavi (Elderton) and Liz Mast (Twin Valley) each added seven. Geckle was 21 of 21 on her serves, with two aces, and Melani Grady (Youngsville) made 16 digs in the back row.GolfA short regular season for the Pennsylvania College of Technology golf team was shortened even further as three of five scheduled matches were canceled by rain. But coach Chet Schuman remains optimistic as his team heads into tournament action Monday. "It's unfortunate, because we've got a really good group of kids," Schuman said of the washouts. On the other hand, the Wildcats went 10-0 in the two tournaments they did play and had medalists both times, which is the reason for the coach's optimism. Competing for Penn College in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference North Division and Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association East Region Championships at the Golden Oaks course in Fleetwood, near Reading, will be sophomores Brandon Smith (Wellsboro), Jeff Kerr II (Bloomsburg) and Scott Dawson (Danville) and freshmen Tony Stopper (Jersey Shore), Shaun McQuay (Warrior Run) and Gilbert Balliet (Warrior Run). Smith was medalist in one tournament and McQuay in the other. "Anything can happen, but if the kids shoot to their ability we're going to do well," Schuman said. Going into the postseason, Schuman said the team is rallying around a statement by Smith, who "reminded everybody that he has never lost as a golfer for Penn College and he doesn't want to start now."Team TennisIn a loss to Penn State-York, Mike Ceresini (Lebanon) was the lone individual winner.
