North Campus Offers Variety of Noncredit Programming in October

A variety of noncredit courses, ranging from cake decorating to living a debt-free lifestyle, will be offered in October at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus near Wellsboro.

Computer Course for SeniorsSeniors who want to learn more about using computers for fun may enroll in a course to be held from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 5 and 12.

In this easy beginners' class, instructor Harry Colegrove will lead participants through entertaining games, e-mailing friends and family, surfing the Internet, buying and selling merchandise on eBay, basic word processing for letter writing, and other fun and practical applications. No previous computer knowledge is necessary. The cost of the class is $69.

Cake-Decorating ClassA basic cake-decorating class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Oct. 12 through Nov. 2.

Participants will learn to do professional-style cakes with sessions on icings, writing messages, piping borders and making edible flowers. Techniques practiced in class will allow participants to bake and decorate cakes for special occasions, such as birthdays or baby and bridal showers.

The instructor, Dixie Coolidge, has years of experience in teaching and in baking specialty cakes. The cost of the four-week class is $99.

Debt-Free Living WorkshopWho wouldn't want to live a debt-free, stress-free lifestyle? A workshop offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 12 will teach students how to do so with their current income. The objective of the class is to help participants pay off all their consumer debt in one to three years, then pay off their 30-year mortgage in another three to four years.

Students will work out their own debt-elimination plans, using their own debt and income information. The $59 cost includes all materials.

First Aid for Teachers Developed especially for elementary teachers who frequently encounter playground injuries, this three-hour seminar will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 19. The class will review common first-aid principles that teachers can institute while summoning professional medical assistance.

The cost is $30, and Act 48 credit is available.

Using eBay With Confidence This seminar, to be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 28, is for anyone who has always wanted to buy or sell online but is reluctant to do so because of the risks involved. Participants will be provided with the knowledge to buy and sell with confidence and with caution. Topics will include searching techniques, risk assessment, bidding, buying, listing and selling. The cost is $49.

The North Campus is located on Route 6 between Wellsboro and Mansfield. Convenient street-level parking is available at the rear of the building.
