Brubacher Excavating Inc. Establishes Scholarship at Penn College

A Lancaster County excavating firm has established a scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology for students in the College's Heavy Construction Equipment, Surveying and Construction Management programs of study.

The Brubacher Excavating Inc. Scholarship will be distributed twice a year at Penn College, beginning this fall.

The Bowmansville company employs numerous Penn College alumni, and its president, Benjamin Brubacher, is a member of the College's Heavy Construction Equipment Technology Advisory Committee.

First preference for the scholarship will be given to employees and/or immediate family members of Brubacher Excavating Inc. (an official company letter confirming this must be provided to the College's Financial Aid Office by student applicants.) For the employee or family member to be eligible, the employee must be employed by Brubacher for a period of at least one year prior to enrollment at Penn College.

In addition, the applicant must be enrolled full-time as a student in one of the following degree programs: Heavy Construction Equipment Technology-Operator Emphasis, Heavy Construction Equipment Technology-Technician Emphasis, Surveying Technology, or Construction Management.

Second preference will be given to those applicants who meet the preceding requirements with the exception that they are enrolled full-time in any academic program offered at Penn College.

Third preference will be given to students enrolled in the following degree programs (in order of preference): Heavy Construction Equipment Technology-Operator Emphasis, Heavy Construction Equipment Technology-Technician Emphasis, Surveying Technology and Construction Management, who reside in Berks, Chester, Lancaster or Montgomery Counties in Pennsylvania.

Preference will be given to continuing students in subsequent years.

"We appreciate the relationship we have with Brubacher Excavating Inc.," said Dr. Wayne R. Longbrake, dean of natural resources management. "In addition to establishing this scholarship, Brubacher Excavating also has donated construction equipment for instructional use by our students. This equipment permits our students to get valuable hands-on experience in their laboratory classes."
