Charlene Ebner, a senior in Pennsylvania College of Technology's Applied Human Services bachelor-degree major, was chosen from among applicants in several states recently to receive a $500 Howard Harris Fund Scholarship.
Ebner, DuBoistown, was chosen during the Middle Atlantic Consortium of Human Services' spring conference. She is one of two recipients from within the Middle-Atlantic region.
According to Dr. Susan Slamka, assistant professor of human services/psychology at Penn College, Ebner has worked as a peer consultant for the College's Nathaniel Project, tutored students in the College's TRIO program and served as one of the Human Services program's paid role-players, helping to train students in beginning-level counseling courses.
"Charlene also completed an internship at AIDS Resource Center in Williamsport and was asked to continue on to work there on a part-time basis when her internship was finished," Slamka said.
The Howard Harris Fund Scholarship is available to students majoring in human services. Ebner was chosen on the basis of academic merit, an essay detailing why she wants to work in the career field and two letters of recommendation.
